Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesday is hosted by Should Be Reading. Here's how you play:

* Grab your current read.
* Let the book fall open to a random page.
* Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.
* You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
* Please avoid spoilers!

I have had this book in my TBR pit for at least ten years. It's about time. My teaser this week:
Now seated at his desk with the proofs of the volume of poems in front of him, he pursues the thought, although it might be more precise to say that he anticipates it, because, knowing as we do that thoughts are fleeting, if we content ourselves with pursuing some thought, we shall soon lose the trail, we shall still be inventing the flying machine only to find it has already reached the stars.
~ taken from page 83, The History of the Siege of Lisbon by Jose Saramago

Quite convoluted...I'm wondering what it's all in reference to. Interesting teaser.

Great teaser! Saramago is one of those writers who really force you to pay attention. But he's definitely worth the effort.
