The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

January 1946: writer Juliet Ashton receives a letter from a stranger, a founding member of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. And so begins a remarkable tale of the island of Guernsey during the German occupation, and of a society as extraordinary as its name.

What can I say about this book? Besides that I absolutely loved it!

I loved the way that it's written, in letter format. I admit that in the beginning the possibility that the whole book in letter format was a little scary for me. I thought that I wouldn't get to know the real characters, I'm a huge fan of dialogue and I was afraid that I would miss that as well. But I was pleasantly surprised on how much I enjoyed the format itself. It made me feel like I was getting a glimpse of real people living in that time period. It was wonderful.

I quickly fell in love with the characters. Their experiences and feelings during WWII were so real and frightful that I felt like I was there along with them. And I cannot express how much I love Juliet sense of humor and also her sense of adventure. It was wonderful.

Ok, I'm sounding like a broken record. But that all I can say, it was wonderful! The book that I read was a library copy, but I'll be getting my own and putting it on my keeper shelf. I high recommend The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.

In my tbr. I bought it when my bookstore newsletter highlighted it a year ago. Now in one week two of my regular stops in blogland gave it glowing reviews. Think the universe is trying to tell me something?
